Orlando, your personality is overflowing with natural wit, cleverness and a sense of humor that kills! You’ve made Elsy and I laugh so hard at times we almost wet our pants. Maybe we did in fact =) What a character you are…. and it was present from such an early age too.
I have so many thoughts and memories from seeing you grow up, and watching your personality develop into what is deeply formed in your core as a person.
You are so inquisitive, interested in others and genuinely inclusive. Your emotional intelligence and ability to empathize with your peers was also noticed by your teachers and became evident to them as they watched your interactions with other kids.
Throughout all the amazing times we spent at Grange Park and others around the city, it often brought tears to my eyes to see how deep your gentle spirit encouraged other kids. I loved seeing you learn to make friends wherever we went.
You rekindled my childhood by letting me be your best friend and play with you. I enjoyed being your big brother as well as your dad. One of the most impactful things you ever expressed to me was how much you loved me and felt happy because “…you always play with me dad”.
Well buddy, it was my privilege to have spent as much time with you as we did. No one knew how the forces of life would split us up in the fall of 2021. We will talk about that one day when we are together again.
From the hours on end spent in the “bouncy ball room” at Peter Street when you were around age 3-5, to wrestling every opportunity we got, no matter where we were, the flying kicks you demonstrated on me, long jumping over me to test your speed and power, and skateboarding downtown near the hotels we stayed at on our weekend trips (to make up for the travels we were never allowed to have…) you enriched my life, you made Elsy brim with laughter, you warmed our hearts and made being your father a joy.
We are proud of you Orlando. You are our Bambino, and we think about you everyday, and always will. Until we meet again, keep being yourself, it’s perfect.
